iD Tech Camps
My rich history with iD Tech Camps spans many roles. Easily one of the funnest places to work at on the planet, I was happy to come on board to help with their 2009 site launch. During this time I helped bring iD Tech over to the WordPress platform as well as implement a site structure that is still used to this day.
I spent the majority of my time polishing up and coding portions of the site. “Portions” is used loosely, for by the time the site launched, I had touched virtually every page of the site. The style of the time dictated a lot of texture and layers which only increased the chances of a poorly executed detail going unnoticed or a cross browser issue cropping up. I also did a lot to improve how data was displayed in both the typographic structure of the site and its many data tables. I was occasionally given a Photoshop comp to code into a newly added feature or splash page. Some of these included the original design of “The Basement” (a camper focused learning and sharing portal), as well as new mapping technologies, interactive slideshows, a streaming video player, and a customized Google Mini site search.
My efforts didn’t stop with just the code. Sometimes I was asked to assist in the creation of graphic assets for various parts of the site. I also was tasked with the selection and placement of the site’s photographic elements. My role as the onsite WordPress expert and my flexibility to accomplish a variety of different tasks helped turn a rather large undertaking into a smoother and less painful operation.
